"This was a very personal experience for me since I was painting a picture of my 9 month old son. While painting a portrait, especially of a small child, was really challenging in every aspect, Illa was there every "stroke" of the way to help and guide me. I am most attached and proud of this painting." |

Title: "Toscana" - Oil on canvas, 24in. x 36in.
"This was my very first painting of a place in Italy my husband and I visited. I was terrified and unsure throughout the whole process, but Illa taught me how to first trace the image from a photograph, how to mix the right colors, what brush strokes and brush types to use, how to get the desired texture, how to pay attention to detail, have patience, and most of all confidence in myself. Illa was extremely detail-oriented, paid attention to every single millimeter on the image, (nothing escaping her trained eye) and gently corrected my mistakes when it was appropriate. I very much enjoyed this experience, and I feel I have learned a great deal from her. Now, anyone who walks into my house is amazed at this painting and can't believe that I was able to do this on my own. I owe this to Illa's awesome ability to teach a complete amateur how to complete a painting that can fool an untrained eye as professional work. She is the most patient and passionate teacher I have ever had." |

"I enjoyed learning the basics of oil on canvas under the tutelage of Illa Joshi. I learned how to use the grid technique, so that every petal and leaf in my painting was at the correct proportion. I also learned how to mix color and apply my brushwork to create texture. Illa was very patient throughout the whole process. What I appreciated most about this teacher was her ability to be flexible and tailor the session to my skills and goals. This was not a “one size fits all” class.

The environment of the class is very easy going and non competitive, because of which I find it a very pleasant and relaxing way to learn to paint."

"I felt like a real artist in a real art studio while working with Ms.Joshi. Using different types of colors and learning to recreate beautiful visuals with the brush stroke gives me immense satisfaction. I felt like an awesome artist and it felt great using all the different colors and art supplies. It is fun working in the Art Studio. The picture is very beautiful, especially the colors are very pretty. This is my first Acrylic painting and I enjoyed working on it with Ms. Joshi." |
